“And in keeping with our new principled lifestyle, we then dutifully head back to class and sweat, lie, stretch and breathe deeply into our toxic rubber mat. Ugh.”

For those of us who have taken on a yoga class we understand that yoga is not just a practice of movement and breath, but a lifestyle. However, in embarking on a more conscious lifestyle with each yoga class we take, ironically, we may be unrolling a chemically toxic mat upon which to engage our higher consciousness. Am I reaching Nirvana or is that just the fumes from the out-gassing of my toxic chemical yoga mat making me dizzy?

Yoga, ultimately, means union. It is a balance of mind, body and spirit. So incorporating yogic principles into our lifestyle becomes something we begin to adopt as we flow into a more conscious and balanced lifestyle. We may begin to eat healthier and start buying organic food. We may forgo a diet coke for an energy boosting wheat grass shot. We might begin to look for organic cotton clothing for our kids. We may start checking homeopathy and acupuncture in lieu of dosing ourselves with Nyquil when we get a cold. And in keeping with our new principled lifestyle, we then dutifully head back to class and sweat, lie, stretch and breathe deeply into our toxic rubber mat. Ugh.

Here’s an inspiration for us all to remember the very foundation on which we stand should be in alignment with our desire to be in alignment. So, we at RMD have done some searching and found some fantastic eco-friendly mats upon which to sun salutation your way to healthy yogic happiness!
