RED, WHITE & BLUE SMOOTHIES

When I make smoothies I like to keep them simple. Usually it’s my fast food breakfast and I need it to help fuel me for quite a few hours. I get a kick out of adding things that I don’t usually eat on their own (spinach, kale, hemp, almond butter etc. ) My toughest critic… my little brother. If I can get him to drink it… I’m on to something.

If you’re like me you want your smoothie filling and cold. If you aren’t using frozen berries you will more than likely want to add ice. Adding hemp is an excellent source EFA’s (essential fatty acids), iron and protein. It blends smoothly and has a creamy flavor. Dates give it natural sweetness and balance the tartness of the berries. They are also an amazing energy booster. This recipe is also great for making popsicles you don’t feel bad about eating.

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup strawberries
1 cup blackberries
1.5 cups blueberries
3 dates
2 cups of vanilla yogurt
2 cups coconut water
3 tbs of raw shelled hemp seed
Add ice as needed
Makes 4 servings
