After a long day there is sometimes nothing a mom loves more  than to snuggle up with a  cozy blanket, a glass of wine and an amazing show. With the accessibility of Netflix and HBO, there is ample opportunity to be entertained. RMD understands you have limited time, and can’t commit to all the shows that come down the pike.  Here is a list of our top 5 current favorites.

1. “The Night Of”-Is an eight part HBO mini-series that involves a complex New York City murder case. If you enjoy drama and an incredibly well acted, character driven storyline, you will love this story. I was riveted by the plot twists and the complexities of the characters. John Turtorro’s portrayal of a low-rent defense attorney brings heart and warmth to an otherwise dark mystery.

2.“The OA” A Netflix mystery series written by and starring the mesmerizing Brit Marling. I was obsessed by this supernatural mystery that starts off with the appearance of a girl who had gone missing 7 years prior, jumping off a bridge. It is a fascinating portrayal of human connection and an exploration of spiritual purpose through the dark journey of this mysterious girl. I literally watched the entire thing in one rainy weekend. Addictive!

3.“Stranger Things” This Netflix original drama series is a kid driven sci-fi story that is set in the 1980’s which gives it a nostalgic feel reminiscent of ET and Poltergeist. It centers around a small Indiana town where strange things begin to happen and kids are disappearing. It has a spooky supernatural vibe and is enormously entertaining.

4.“The Crown” For those of us desperately in need of a Downton Abbey fix, The Crown is an anglophiles dream. A Netflix original series and centers around the early life of Queen Elizabeth and her rise to power, shows a very human side of the queen. It is an intimate portrayal of her marriage, her family relationships and her growing into her own power as a woman in the highest position in England. John Lithgow’s portrayal of Winston Churchill is wonderful.

5.“Outlander”-A Starz original series is the ultimate romantic escape. Based on the Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon, the story centers around a British Army nurse in the Second World War, Claire Randall, who happens upon a time portal that transports her to the year 1743 where she meets up with and the gorgeous Scottish warrior, Jamie Fraser. The historical background, the gorgeous scenery and the steamy sex scenes makes this the perfect guilty pleasure!
