Little moccasins from Freshly Picked at: www.freshlypicked.com

“The benefits of the soft sole for kids also include increased balance as the feet are able to adjust to the movements of the body as there is no thick sole getting in the way between the foot and the ground.”

Nothing is cuter or funnier, than an adult looking proper shoe in itty bitty infant sizes. Until our kids are actually walking, the shoe aspect of their wardrobe is largely for show. But once they become mobile, it is really important to look into the best shoes for helping them to maneuver on their newly discovered feet.

The famous, Dr. Jay Gordon of Santa Monica, CA is a big advocate of the soft shoe or moccasin style for new walkers. If you can’t be barefoot, he insists soft shoes are best. His belief is that as kids are learning how to keep them self upright and get mobile, they need the connection with the earth through the soft sole of the mocassin shoe. These little shoes provide just enough protection from rough or hot surfaces for the child to have protection, while also allowing little toes to grip. They also provide some necessary traction as the leather soles grip the ground far better than slippery socks.  The benefits of the soft sole for kids also include increased balance as the feet are able to adjust to the movements of the body as there is no thick sole getting in the way between the foot and the ground.

Babies and toddlers love the comfort and slip on ease of soft shoes. They will enjoy the flexible, wide soft soles for mobility and you will love them for the healthy foot development. According to the society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, the 26 bones in our feet are not fully ossified (or hardened) until the age of 12-18 years old. While children’s feet are developing, the soft cartilage centers are fusing together. Therefore the little feet of kids are at risk for injury or deformity due to ill fitting or restrictive footwear. So stock up on these soft little moccasins and enjoy the sound of pattering little feet.
