Weighted Blankets Are Trending

weighted blankets- new parenting rtrendWeighted blankets are pretty cool to begin with and saw a serious jump in Pinterest popularity this year. A longtime staple of people who work with autistic and developmentally disabled children, weighted blankets are breaking into the mainstream in a big way in 2018.

Weight blankets are known as an incredibly effective way to help kids calm down. Its power doubles for hyper and high energy children. So, how do weighted blankets help kids slow down and relax better? Well, it all has to do with their “deep pressure” feature.

Weighted blankets weigh more (duh!). This extra weight has been shown to help relieve anxiety, increase serotonin and melatonin levels, and much more. The upshot? Get your child a weighted blanket and they’ll be calmer. We’re on board!

Forget Plastic, 2018 is All About the Environment

With climate change as an indisputable fact, one of 2018’s hottest parenting trends is protecting the environment. How, may you ask? By making sure to buy environmentally-friendly toys, clothing, and baby products.

Pinterest searches for toys made of wood jumped 173% this year. Looks like moms across the planet are ditching iPads for wooden trains and getting rid of plastic binkies in exchange for wooden building sets. Sounds good to us!

This eco-conscious mindset doesn’t stop at toys. Pinterest searches for “eco-friendly clothing” have bumped an impressive 750%. Nope, that’s not a typo, we said 750%. Makes sense, as going green isn’t just a fad anymore, but an established way to live: from hitting the road to packing your child’s lunch.

These eco searches compromise both baby clothing like diapers, onesies, and clothes and baby products like high chairs and strollers. Our take? Save the environment and make sure your baby looks good in a wool onesie!

It’s the Year of the Modern Nursery

The new year isn’t all about saving the planet. Moms are looking to extend the shelf life of their nurseries by ditching the pink or blue in favor of something a bit more modern.

What’s a modern nursery look like? Well, we’re talking about contemporary furniture, monochrome and neutral color palettes, and dressers that double as changing tables. We’re talking about easily removable wall decals rather than floral wallpaper. We’re talking about an emphasis on repurposed furniture and minimalist design.

Sounds rad, right?

Get That Chic Look with Teething Necklaces

Speaking of rad, 2018 is the year of mommy jewelry. This new trend ranges from the explosion of teething necklaces to the subtler look of silicone jewelry in general. In fact, Pinterest searches for teething necklaces have grown by 146%!

Not sure you’re on the silicone jewelry bandwagon? We don’t blame you, it sounds a bit sketchy. Turns out that’s not the case at all, though! Silicone jewelry looks as chic as traditional necklaces and bracelets, but offers your toddler something safe to play with (or chew on!).

Next Level Nesting

It’s time to reinvent the wheel when it comes to nesting. What worked in the ‘90s, meal prep for nestingand even the ‘00s, doesn’t cut it in today’s hyper-competitive and connected world. Seriously, don’t wait for your newborn to arrive and then figure out how to balance work, family, hobbies, and having fun. Start preparing ahead of time!

Pinterest has taken over good, old nesting. Not only have searches for baby prep blown up by 207%, but pinners themselves have created some seriously helpful pre-baby lists. We’re talking about fifty freezer meals you can prep today, checklists for the hospital, time-saving nursery hacks, and much, much more.
