1. Always make your bed
The moment you wake up, make the bed! This is a great way to start the day. You should in-fact, teach the same to all of the members in your family. A clean and organized bed will give a positive feel and make your bedroom look much more organized. Remember to not throw clothes, books or other items on your bed!
2. Do not keep a sink full of dirty dishes
Dirty dishes! Yuck! Develop a habit of loading the dishwasher or washing the dishes by hand after finishing a meal. It makes the kitchen much more inviting. What ever you do… DO NOT go to bed with a sink full of dishes. It’s one of the worst things to wake up to. Who wants to start their day trying to scrape off last night’s crusted dinner off of plates?
Each corner of the house accumulates a lot of dust in a single week’s time and it becomes tedious to clean it. However, regular dusting is a must when keeping house tidy and fresh. Take a warm wash rag and brush along surfaces so you’re actually picking it up rather than puling it around.
4. Keep a check on unused items
Make sure you are not storing unnecessary items at home. Get rid of old clothes, newspapers, empty containers, broken toys and anything else you think won’t be used in future.
5. Make use of your laundry basket
Keep all the used and dirty clothes in the laundry basket and wash it whenever you get free time. At our house, we keep them in the bathroom so dirty clothes are more apt to find their way in. Also, changing the bed sheets and pillow covers at least once a week make for a much more peaceful sleep.
6. Organize your couch
Keep your living room organized and clean so that you don’t need to worry about a surprise visit from a dear friend. Put the pillows in place, fold the blankets and line up the coffee table books. Younger children can help with this chore easily.
7. Prioritize and follow a routine
Some things need your urgent attention while few can be kept on hold for some time. Prioritize the cleaning schedule. Following a routine can make it feel like less work and bring down the level of overwhelm that cleaning the entire house can make some of us feel.
A clean and organized home feels welcoming! Make sure to take few minutes each day to to tidy up. The more you include the family the more the routine gets put in place! It’s all about good systems!
